Jurors who decided Lindsay Clancy was not guilty of murdering her children are speaking out, and it’s even worse than I imagined. Let’s talk about it.
Lindsay Clancy, a former Massachusetts labour and delivery nurse, was charged with murdering her three children, Cora, five, Dawson, three, and eight-month-old Callan, in January 2023. Clancy admitted killing the children but pleaded not guilty by reason of lack of criminal responsibility, with her defence arguing that she was suffering from severe postpartum psychosis at the time and was unable to understand that her actions were wrong. Prosecutors argued that the killings were deliberate and that Clancy remained criminally responsible. After nearly six weeks of testimony and seven days of jury deliberations, the 12-person jury became deadlocked, reportedly with 11 jurors favouring an acquittal on the grounds of insanity and one refusing to agree, resulting in a mistrial on 4 September 2026. Clancy therefore has not been convicted or acquitted, and prosecutors have yet to decide whether to seek a retrial. Her lawyer has now asked the judge to acquit her, with that request due to be considered on 29 September.
