The Black Mambas: All Female Anti-Poaching Unit Protecting Rhinos In South Africa!
The Black Mamba Anti-Poaching Unit (Black Mamba APU) is a mostly female ranger unit founded with the purpose of protecting wildlife in South Africa. They are on the front-line protecting dwindling numbers of rhino. The Greater Kruger Park is home to largest population of rhino in the world and has become the epicenter of the current rhino poaching crisis.
In the last five years 4,000 rhino have been killed. If the current rate continues, rhinos will be extinct in the wild by 2025! You can support them by donating here: https://www.youcaring.com/theblackmambas-761778

Bullet-proof origami: folding Kevlar shield designed by BYU mechanical engineers
BYU mechanical engineers have created an origami-inspired, lightweight bulletproof shield that can protect law enforcement from gunfire. The new ballistic barrier can be folded compactly when not in use, making it easier to transport and deploy. When expanded — which takes only five seconds — it can provide cover for officers and stop bullets from several types of handguns.
“We worked with a federal special agent to understand what their needs were, as well as SWAT teams, police officers and law enforcement, and found that the current solutions are often too heavy and not as portable as they would like,” said Larry Howell, professor of mechanical engineering at BYU. “We wanted to create something that was compact, portable, lightweight and worked really well to protect them.”
In working with law enforcement, BYU researchers learned much of what is currently used hasn’t evolved much from medieval times: shields that are mostly flat, awkward plates that cover only one person. Current barriers are so heavy and cumbersome they make it difficult for officers to move into position.
The barrier Howell and his colleagues designed is made of 12 layers of bulletproof Kevlar and weighs only 55 pounds (many of the steel-based barriers in current use approach 100 pounds). The BYU-built barrier uses a Yoshimura origami crease pattern to expand around an officer, providing protection on the side in addition to protecting them in the front.
In testing, the barrier successfully stopped bullets from 9 mm, .357 Magnum and .44 Magnum pistols.
“Those are significant handguns with power,” Howell said. “We suspected that something as large as a .44 Magnum would actually tip it over, but that didn’t happen. The barrier is very stable, even with large bullets hitting it.”
The researchers constructed the barrier prototypes to be extremely stiff and protective throughout, while also maintaining the flexible qualities of Kevlar fabric so they can be folded compactly. Since Kevlar fabric is subject to fraying, abrasion and is sensitive to sunlight and water, the team also made a concentrated effort to reinforce it against the environment.
“It goes from a very compact state that you can carry around in the trunk of a car to something you can take with you, open up and take cover behind to be safe from bullets,” said Terri Bateman, BYU adjunct professor of engineering and research team member. “Then you can easily fold it up and move it if you need to advance your position.”
In addition to protecting police officers, researchers believe the barrier could be used to protect children in a school or a wounded person in an emergency situation. Although the ballistic barrier is now just in prototype form and not currently in use by any law enforcement agencies, Howell and Bateman have tested it with officers on site. The response has been positive so far.
“There are a lot of risks to law personnel and we feel like this particular product can really make a difference and save a lot of lives,” Bateman said. “It makes us feel like we’re really making a difference in the world.”

George Carlin Dubbing Thomas the Tank Engine (18+)
Don't watch this with your kids!
As both a George Carlin and Thomas the tank engine fan, I always found it funny that the comedian known for his black humor and dark social criticisms was asked to narrate the children's television series.
I edited together some of his narrations and his comedy acts to create this interesting piece.

Permanent Magnet Switch
With this magnetic experiment I want to show how to create a switch for permanent magnets.
Obviously you can not turn off the magnetic field of a permanent magnet, but by playing with more than one magnet and creating interaction with their fields you can get interesting results.
What you need for this experiment are 3 equal magnets and iron bars to cut the required size, add the pieces as you see in the video and you will have built a permanent magnet with ON / OFF switch
I used to build this switch:
3 neodymium magnets 12x12x12 mm
2 iron bars 12x12x70 mm
2 pieces of iron 15x4x26 mm
1 piece of iron 15x4x20 mm
1 of suitably cut plastic cap to build a ring nut and rotate the top portion of the switch

Pot Sasquatch in the News
While you may have heard of Sasquatch, the large and hairy humanoid creature that walks on its hind legs, a new breed of Bigfoot has been discovered in Western Massachusetts: Pot Sasquatch.
A person dressed as a ginormous nugget of weed had a great time trolling WWLP meteorologist Jennifer Pagliei during her coverage of the winter storm which plowed through the northeastern United States on Thursday. Just as Pagliei started to deliver her live update, the Pot Sasquatch creeped into the shot, surprising her when she turned around to show off the snowfall.

Who Pays on a First Date? - Matthew Hussey, Get The Guy
You’re on a first date with a guy.
You just finished your drinks and the waiter hands you the check.
He’s about to pay. Should you offer to cover your half of the bill? Or just smile and say thank you when the guy puts his credit card on the table?
First date manners matter A LOT. You’d be shocked how many times I’ve heard from guys who were so turned off by a woman’s attitude towards money that they instantly disregarded her as “girlfriend material” because of it.
I’m not going to lie, in this week’s blog video, I get PRETTY controversial.
But I think this REALLY matters, so I hope you’ll keep an open mind when you watch this. You’ll get a glimpse into my live seminar where I explain exactly how to approach the question of who pays on a first date in a way that makes him MORE attracted to you.

Toto - Africa - Cover
Here's my version of the giant hit by Toto from their 1982 album "Toto IV". It was written by David Paich and Jeff Porcaro.
By Youtube User - "Irettlawaltteri"
Man records heartbreaking moment his dementia suffering mother forgets who he is for the first time.
Mother and Son's Journey with Dementia - The day started out good until I started asking my Mother questions. One question led to another until I heard the words that no child ever wants to hear.
When I started this video series I made a commitment to my Mother, caregivers and other people suffering from Dementia that we would make a difference and show the world the suffering that's involved with this disease. I plan on taking this video series all the way to the end.
The people that are suffering and have suffered from Dementia deserve that everyone know the pain and suffering they have been through.
I know I'm not the first child to go through this with their Mother or Father and I won't be the last. I now know the loss and pain they felt when this horrible day finally came.
This day I will never forget.
