The Rushmore Monument, more commonly known as Mount Rushmore, is a famous American landmark located in the Black Hills of South Dakota. The monument features the colossal carved faces of four United States presidents, George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt and Abraham Lincoln, representing the nation's birth, growth, development and preservation. Sculpted into the granite mountainside between 1927 and 1941 under the direction of Gutzon Borglum, Mount Rushmore attracts millions of visitors each year and remains one of the most recognisable symbols of American history and national identity.
