Competition: Win I Am Not Madame Bovary on DVD

I Am Not Madame Bovary is out on DVD on October 2nd and to celebrate we have a great competition for you and 3 copies of the DVD to give away.

Synopsis:
Acclaimed director Feng Xiaogang and superstar Fan Bingbing team up for this razor-sharp, intriguing tale of a wronged woman fighting for justice against her duplicitous husband and the government itself.

When Li Xuelian (Fan Bingbing) and her husband Qin Yuhe (Li Zonghan) stage a fake divorce to secure a second apartment reserved by the government for single people, all seems to go to plan. Six months later, Qin remarries, as agreed… but to a different woman. Furious, Li files a lawsuit with the County Court, but loses the case after the Judge remains convinced the divorce papers are in order.

Refusing to accept the court's findings, Li appeals to the Chief Justice, the County Chief, and even the Mayor, but fails at every turn. She decides that only Qin can give her peace of mind, if he will just acknowledge that the divorce was fake. Instead, he publicly accuses her of being a "promiscuous woman"- an accusation that drives Li back to the courts, and to the capital, to redeem her reputation once and for all.

Shot partly in a circular aspect ratio, mirroring the literati paintings of the Song Dynasty, I AM NOT MADAME BOVARY offers a powerful, compelling and hilarious social satire, which transcends all cultures in uniquely stylish fashion.

Manufacturing plywood boards: then and now

Plywood is a simple material made by glueing together thin sheets of wood, known as veneers or plies. These basic elements have remained broadly the same throughout its history. The most significant breakthrough in its production came in the early 1800s with the development of steam-powered machines that could cut veneers cheaply. The most influential of these was the rotary veneer cutter.

The cutter rotates a log against a wide, horizontal blade, causing it to ‘peel’ into a continuous sheet of wood. This enables the creation of longer, wider sheets of veneer than previously possible and with little waste. Using these machines meant that plywood could be manufactured quickly and inexpensively on a large scale.

This film shows the stages in manufacturing plywood boards in the mid-20th century and today. The process remains essentially unchanged, although today many of the machines are much faster and computer controlled.

Produced as part of the V&A exhibition Plywood: Material of the Modern World (15 July – 12 November 2017).

African Cheetah Versus Meerkats

Kinji the Cheetah is something special. He honestly tries making friends with everyone... especially the animals that lives within his reach. I've mentioned before he is very clever and extremely calm and non aggressive in nature. Chloe the dog bites him on the lips sometimes when he bothers her to much and he accepts the consequences and never retaliates. He is a fun loving cheetah who loves to play and loves MEERKATS!

Here he is at 8 months and 2 years old trying to get the meerkats to scratch him. He ends up purring to the delight of getting a grooming from these small creatures. He has no idea they want to kill him! Meerkats are territorial and do not like predators.

Staff label Kinji as "The cheetah that doesn't purr" and it is rare for sure. I've only heard him purr when eating sometimes, playing with a toy sometimes, and encountering his meerkat friends. I was very happy to hear and record his purr. A cheetah purr is quickly becoming my favorite sound in the world... so relaxing, calming, and something that penetrates the psyche down to the rudimentary soul for me. A purrs is designed to calm tensions; letting others around them know a friendly cat is present.

BUGATTI Chiron 0-400-0 km/h in 42 seconds – A WORLD RECORD #IAA2017

World record for the BUGATTI Chiron: the 1,500 PS super car has accelerated from a standing start to 400 km/h (249 mph) and braked back to a standstill in just 42 seconds (41.96). This is the fastest time ever reached and officially measured for this driving manoeuvre for a production vehicle throughout the world. The Chiron completed the manoeuvre in a distance of only 3.112 kilometres. This underscores the supercar’s unique position in the extreme performance range. The world record was set by Juan Pablo Montoya, winner of the Formula 1 Monaco Grand Prix, two-time winner of the Indy 500 and three-time winner of the 24 hours of Daytona. The 0-400-0 manoeuvre is the first step on the way to a new world speed record for production vehicles which Bugatti intends to set in 2018 and a further highlight in the success story of the Chiron.

Please note: The video shows the actual 0-400-0 run in real time, so it is 41.96 seconds long.

Resident uses AquaDam to protect home from floodwaters

ROSHARON, Texas - Of the thousands of homes evacuated and damaged by flooding in Brazoria County, one family’s home is high and dry on West FM 1462 in Rosharon.

Randy Wagner decided to take a chance on something called an Aqua Dam, a product he discovered online.

Rosharon, and many parts of Brazoria County were filled with military vehicles and airboats to facilitate mandatory evacuations when the Brazos River began to overflow.

“Your family being relocated and you know it’s heartbreaking to know that that could happen,” said Wagner.

Wagner was determined to find a way to save his home, after Brazos River Authority warned residents of the approaching floods that hadn’t been seen in decades.

“To not know what that level was going to stop at, I needed to prepare for something that no one has seen,” said Wagner.
