The Myth of Women Not Working

 

The idea that women only began working after World War I ignores centuries of contribution in both paid and unpaid labour. Women ran businesses, worked in shops, and supported local economies, even if their efforts were not always formally recognised. The post-war period did expand opportunities and visibility, but work by women has long been an essential part of British society.
