Dropped into a turbine engine

Rare opportunity to demonstrate a sound that no turbine tech wants to hear... ever!

... because it means you have to get that thing you dropped in there back out. Jet engines are heavy and sensitive, so it's a big deal to lift one up and turn it over, just to hopefully drop out a small piece that some dumbass dropped in there.

If that does not work, the engine must be disassembled to the point where the item can be retrieved. This will be an expensive process.
... that's why it's a bad sound.

First Flight on Another Planet!

The Mars Helicopter aims to make the first powered flight on another planet when it takes off on Mars as part of the Mars 2020 mission. I learned a lot getting to visit the drone right before it was mounted on the rover.

How do you fly in 1% of Earth's atmosphere:
Have large rotors (they are 1.2m in diameter) and spin them very fast, around 2500 RPM (5x the speed of a helicopter on Earth).

Plus the aircraft has to be light:
The Mars helicopter weighs in at 1.8kg or around the same as a laptop. Every piece had to be stripped down for weight. Instead of using aerogel for insulation, the craft makes use of CO2 gaps between components. Even aerogel was too heavy!

One of the major challenges is surviving the Martian night:
Temperatures plunge to -80C to -100C so two thirds of the craft's power is actually used to keep its electronics warm. Only one third is used for flying. The estimated flight time is 90 seconds.

The craft can't be driven remotely, it will have to fly autonomously, using its own sensor suite to determine how to fly. The round trip 20 minute delay with Earth means steering the craft from mission control would be impossible.

COMPETITION: Win The Secrets She Keeps on DVD

The Secrets She Keeps is out on DVD on August 10th

And to celebrate we have a great competition for you and 3 Copies on DVD to give away.

Synopsis
THE CAT is out the bag…Brand-new nail-biting drama The Secrets She Keeps is set to have viewers hooked this summer. This six-part small-screen adaptation of Michael Robotham’s best-seller follows the lives of two pregnant women in wildly different circumstances, whose meeting may be more than a coincidence. This ‘domestic noir’ drama arrives on digital 8 July and DVD 10 August 2020 from Acorn Media International, following its run on BBCOne.

Successful mummy-blogger Meghan (Jessica De Gouw – The Crown, Vienna Blood) meets shelf-stacker Agatha (Laura Carmichael – Downton Abbey, The Spanish Princess) in the supermarket of her affluent Sydney suburb. The pair are both pregnant, bonding over the similar due dates of their babies, but as they grow closer, Agatha becomes more and more obsessed with Meghan’s “perfect” life. However under the surface, problems with her high-flying TV exec husband Jack (Michael Dorman – Patriot, The Invisible Man) and tension with his best friend Simon (Ryan Corr – Cleverman, Hacksaw Ridge) mean Meghan is keeping plenty of secrets of her own…

Meanwhile, the father of Agatha’s child, Hayden (Michael Sheasby – The Luminaries, A Place to Call Home) is away on duty and might not be as excited about the baby as Agatha is, forcing her to confront the question: when the life you want isn’t yours, how far will you go to get it?

A fascinating exploration of female friendship, urban class divide, social media, and motherhood, all wrapped up in an edge-of-your-seat thriller, you’ll be guessing The Secrets She Keeps until the very end.

For those who did not understand what is going on this video, here's a brief explanation: The main loud music really comes from the tesla coil sparks. They are literally playing the music due to the programmed phase, pulse width and firing frequency! So, there are no speakers, no audio / video special effects. It looks even better in person and sounds almost the same, just without the beat / percussion backing track.

COMPETITION: Win My Brilliant Friend - Series 2 on DVD

My Brilliant Friend - Series 2 is out on DVD on August 3rd

And to celebrate we have a great competition for you and 3 Copies on DVD to give away.

Synopsis
The award-winning, beloved Neapolitan Novels by Italian author Elena Ferrante tell an epic, riveting tale of love, loss, hardships and the enduring power of female friendship.

Elena Greco is an elderly writer whose best friend Lila has disappeared without a trace, so Elena begins to write the story of their lives growing up together in a mob-ruled, poverty-stricken neighbourhood in 1950s Naples. As children, Elena (Elisa Del Genio) and Lila’s (Ludovica Nasti) friendship is put to the test as financial disparities provide them with very different opportunities in life. Lila’s writing genius is stifled after her parents can no longer afford further education and put her to work, while Elena flourishes in school, no longer in the shadow of her friend’s brilliance.

The second series follows the Elena (Margherita Mazzucco) and Lila (Gaia Girace) as adolescents into the Swinging Sixties, where this fierce, complex friendship must endure romantic rivalry and shocking violence, as the notorious Solara gangster family becomes harder to avoid entanglements with. Both growing into beautiful young women, they draw the attentions of a powerful gang-leader’s son, a grocer, a mechanic, a schoolboy and his father, all while navigating the trials and tribulations of marriage and university, abuse and motherhood, and critical acclaim for a novel that sparks jealousy between these women whose lives are so closely intertwined.

This dramatic and deeply moving story of a lifetime shared is deftly directed by celebrated Italian filmmakers Saverio Costanzo (Hungry Hearts) and Alice Rohrwacher (Happy as Lazzarro). Delve into this decades-long, push-and-pull friendship filled with secrets kept, and trust built and broken. Will Elena ever unveil the mystery of Lila, her brilliant friend, and her worst enemy?

The Dunning-Kruger Effect - Cognitive Bias - Why Incompetent People Think They Are Competent

In the field of psychology, the Dunning–Kruger effect is a cognitive bias in which people mistakenly assess their cognitive ability as greater than it is. It is related to the cognitive bias of illusory superiority and comes from the inability of people to recognize their lack of ability. Without the self-awareness of metacognition, people cannot objectively evaluate their competence or incompetence.

After its run on BBC One this summer, this stunning story of fate and fortune arrives on DVD and digital on 20 July 2020 from Acorn Media International.

But fate has other plans for them…and so does scheming fortune-teller Lydia (Eva Green – Penny Dreadful, Casino Royale), who takes Anna under her wing; while naive Emery falls in with ex-convict Francis Carver (Marton Csokas – Into the Badlands, Γ†on Flux).

Nine months later, the cruel George Shepard (Callan Mulvey – Avengers: Endgame, Zero Dark Thirty) is investigating the murder of the mysterious Crosbie Wells (Ewen Leslie – The Nightingale, The Cry)…and Anna is the prime suspect. With help from vengeance-seeking opium war veteran Sook Yongsheng (Yoson An – Mulan, Mortal Engines) and Maori greenstone-hunter Te Rau Tauwhare (Richard Te Are – The Dead Lands, Danger Close), will the truth out?

As the lovers try to find their way back to each other, they are confronted with magic and murder, romance and revenge, all fuelled by the gold-lust that seems to infect everyone around them. This Speech Will Change Your Life - Carl Sagan

From this distant vantage point, the Earth might not seem of any particular interest. But for us, it's different. Consider again at that dot. That's here. That's home. That's us. On it everyone you love, everyone you know, everyone you ever heard of, every human being who ever was, lived out their lives.

The aggregate of our joy and suffering, thousands of confident religions, ideologies, and economic doctrines, every hunter and forager, every hero and coward, every creator and destroyer of civilization, every king and peasant, every young couple in love, every mother and father, hopeful child, inventor, and explorer,
every teacher of morals, every corrupt politician, every "superstar," every "supreme leader," every saint and sinner in the history of our species lived there-on a mote of dust suspended in a sunbeam.

The Earth is a very small stage in a vast cosmic arena. Think of the endless cruelties visited by the inhabitants of one corner of this pixel on the scarcely distinguishable inhabitants of some other corner, how frequent their misunderstandings, how eager they are to kill one another, how fervent their hatreds.

Think of the rivers of blood spilled by all those generals and emperors so that, in glory and triumph, they could become the momentary masters of a fraction of a dot.

Our posturings, our imagined self-importance, the delusion that we have some privileged position in the Universe, are challenged by this point of pale light. Our planet is a lonely speck in the great enveloping cosmic dark. In our obscurity, in all this vastness, there is no hint that help will come from elsewhere to save us from ourselves.

The Earth is the only world known so far to harbor life. There is nowhere else, at least in the near future, to which our species could migrate. Visit, yes. Settle, not yet. Like it or not, for the moment the Earth is where we make our stand.

It has been said that astronomy is a humbling and character-building experience. There is perhaps a no better demonstration of the folly of human conceits than this distant image of our tiny world.

To me, it underscores our responsibility to deal more kindly with one another and to preserve and cherish the pale blue dot, the only home we've ever known.

Agatha Raisin Series 1- 3 Boxset is out on DVD on 6th July.

And to celebrate we have a great competition for you and 2 copies on DVD to give away.

Synopsis
INTERNATIONAL STAR Ashley Jensen (Catastrophe, After Life) returns as the titular, beloved amateur detective Agatha Raisin, in the hit series, that sees her solve murder mysteries in a sleepy Cotswolds village, all while sporting a fabulous wardrobe and dangerously sharp wit.

Based on the best-selling novels by M.C. Agatha Raisin Series Three arrives on DVD and digital alongside the Agatha Raisin Complete Series One – Three Box Set on 6 July from Acorn Media International.

Glamorous PR-executive Agatha Raisin turns sleuth in the picturesque Cotswolds after her planned retirement to the country sees her become the prime suspect in a murder investigation. Armed with her trademark tenacity and fashion flair, along with help from her assistant Roy (Mathew Horne – Gavin & Stacey) and her trusty roster of friends: ladies’ man Sir Charles Fraith (Jason Merrells – Waterloo Road), cleaner Gemma (Katy Wix – The Windsors), nosy neighbour Mrs Boggle (Marcia Warren – Don’t Forget the Driver) and paramour James (Jamie Glover – Waterloo Road), Agatha takes up the detective mantle to uncover the perpetrators of a series of heinous and strange murders,  lurking in the quaint village of Carsely.

The new series sees Agatha drumming up business for her new detective agency by investigating a legendary haunted house and even enrolling in dance lessons after disaster strikes a young woman’s engagement party. She must put her detective skills to the test when she investigates the death of a woman James is seen arguing with, in an attempt to clear his name, and when a roast pig at the Winter Fayre turns out to be a human corpse, DC Bill  Wong (Matt McCooey – Invizimals) must lead the investigation under strict instructions to keep Agatha out of it…luckily for him, Agatha’s not so easy to keep away from the action!

COMPETITION: Win Code 404 - Series 1 on DVD

Code 404 is out on DVD on 6th July.

And to celebrate we have a great competition for you and 3 copies on DVD to give away.

Synopsis
BRITISH ACTING greats Stephen Graham and Daniel Mays join forces as the ultimate dream team, taking the buddy cop genre to another dimension in hilarious new sci-fi mash-up Sky Original comedy series Code 404, which arrives on DVD and digital 6 July 2020 from Acorn Media International.

Detective Inspectors DI John Major (Mays – Temple, Good Omens) and DI Roy Carver (Graham – Line of Duty, The Irishman) are the top crime fighting duo in the Met's Special Investigation Unit, but when an undercover sting goes horribly wrong, Major is gunned down on the job and killed. How will the SIU function without him? Well, it doesn't have to.

As an 'asset' considered too valuable to lose, his body is fast-tracked into an experimental Artificial Intelligence project to bring him back from the dead. The only problem is, Major 2.0 may look like and sound like the original, but something has been lost in translation – quite a lot actually. His arrogant demeanour and gung-ho approach remain, but his crimefighting instincts have completely deserted him.

Somehow, Major's error-strewn hunches and Carver's scrambling to make good allow them to just about scrape by. But while the experiment might be hailed as a scientific success, on the front line Carver is left dealing with an increasingly deluded partner, hellbent on revenge for his own death. Not to mention in the year since his death, Major’s wife (Anna Maxwell-Martin – Motherland, Line of Duty) has moved on, and her new boyfriend could cause Major problems...

Get ready for a rollicking ride, Code 404 will crack you up.
